New Afghan Wool Rug
New Afghan Wool Rug
Bespoke handmade kilim rugs are sourced directly from Afghanistan. These beautiful one off classic and modern designs are created by highly skilled village artisans using 100% local sheep wool, organic dyes and traditional weaving techniques. The flatweave construction is extremely hard wearing and is less than 5mm thick.
These wonderful tribal Barjasta rugs are woven by the Mushwani people in Herat provinces of Afghanistan. They feature a unique mixed weave structure including knotted pile. This is considered one of the most difficult handmade rug weaving, as they make the flat weave kilim first and then make the pile on top of some patterns. The Mushwani are descendants of Turkmens and a tribe located south of Herat near Shindand. They are sometimes incorrectly identified as a Baluch tribe.
